How to Clean your Ring at Home

Diamonds are recognized for their brilliance and lasting strength. However, they may lose their luster from accumulated dirt, oil, and residues. How often should you clean your ring?

This is the most asked questions. We always let our clients know how important cleaning your ring is. We recommend home cleaning be done once a week to keep the oil, lotions, and dirt off your ring to maintain the sparkle of the diamond. Every 6 months take your ring to a jeweler for a professional cleaning and inspection to ensure no stones are loose. This is helpful to make sure no stone falls off in the future. How to Clean a Ring

Cleaning at home is simple and easy with a few items like:

  • Mild dish soap 
  • Warm water 
  • Soft-bristled toothbrush 
  • Soft, lint-free cloth or microfiber cloth 
  • Small bowl 

1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with your warm water in the bowl. (Avoid any harsh chemicals for house 

2.  Place your diamond ring in the solution and let it soak for about 20 to 40 minutes. (This helps loosen the dirt from the ring)

3.  Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, gently scrub the diamond and the setting. Make sure to also brush back off the also. (Make sure to use a soft toothbrush and do a circle motion to avoid scattering the metal.) 

4. Rinse the ring under warm running water to remove any soap residue. (Make sure to put a strain in your sink to prevent it from falling int the pips.)

5. Pat the ring dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or microfiber cloth. DO NOT USE  paper towels or tissues as they can scratch the metal.  

There are a few other methods for cleaning a diamond ring that include windex, hydrogen peroxide, jewelry cleaner solution. But these methods only work for specific types of metal, whereas the process and materials listed above work for any metal type. 

What to Avoid When You’re Cleaning a Ring at Home  

There a a few things to avoid when wearing your ring. Make sure when you go to the gym to take off the jewelry due to sweat and bending the ring. But also avoid harsh chemicals like bleach, chlorine, acetone, or other harsh chemicals that can weaken the metal and dull your diamond or any stone.
